My first ever blog post
Well, this is my first ever blog post. I've not really got much of an idea what I'm doing, so I'll start with a bit of background.
I'm supported by my amazing wife, Ruth, who has been awesome throughout my training for the past few years and this line from one of my favourite songs sums up how much she means to me "All that I am,
All that I ever was, Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see"
We've also got a great little girl called Hannah, who's just turned 9 (going on 29 though). Who keeps us on our toes and is showing signs of starting tri training.
I've just turned 40 and have been competing in triathlon for about 5 years now, although my results leave a lot to be desired. It all started a few years ago, I was playing a lot of golf and was really trying to improve my game, but I found that by about the 14th hole I was feeling tired and it was affecting my score. So I decided something needed to be done about it. I wasn't quite at the Kaftan wearing or elasticated waistband stage, but I'd put on a bit of "timber" since my younger days. So, I decided to start exercising. I used to be incredibly active when I was younger, trying my hand at a plethora of sports and activities, so it came as a bit of a shock when I first started training and could barely run to the end of the street. Then one of my mates suggested doing a sprint distance triathlon, so I started training for the Nantwich tri. I managed to get through the race with a not too embarrassing time, but I was hooked. I couldn't wait to do my next race, so I entered another couple of races the following year.
From then it just seems to have grown. Up until autumn 2012 I had absolutely no desire to do anything longer than a standard distance race. Then, I don't know what, something seemed to grab my attention and I started to have little pangs of desire, to have a crack at an Ironman distance race.
I changed my training plan, from just doing bits and bobs, to a more structured routine and I joined Tri Team Wigan, as well as joining in with some of the sessions that were being run by The Endurance Store. The help and advice that I've received, so far, has been fantastic and has really helped me kick on with my training during 2013.
